For a large project I'm working on, I need to figure out how to "fix" watercolors. I have done an underpainting in watercolors that I don't want to screw up by adding watercolor overpaint without fixing.
So I tried an experiment with Krylon Workable Fix. Unfortunately, the result was as expected: the fixative resisted the overpainting. I didn't want to totally toss this little painting, though, because I was having so much fun with it, so I did the overpainting in acrylics. The second part of the experiment was a resounding success: On the advice of someone over at wetcanvas.com, I switched from a payne's gray underpainting to a violet one. It really does punch up the overpainting in a lovely way. 8 x 10, watercolor and acrylics Modeled by the talented Lockstock. [link] |
